Queen + Paul Rodgers live in Prague, 2008
Ok, it’s not Queen, it’s Brian and Roger, technically half of the former Queen. It doesn’t really matter since they carry the real Queen spirit. Paul Rodgers is not Freddie and never tried to be, although many people try to compare them. They cannot be compared. It’s clear, that without Freddie Queen will never be the band it was before. But that doesn’t mean they should retire. Both Brian and Roger are brilliant musicians and I think it’s totally OK they go on with the show under the name of Queen. It’s something like your beloved wife dies, you grieve for years, but finally you find strength to live and find another woman. It doesn’t mean you forgot the first one and it doesn’t mean that life with the second one will be the same. But it can be good too, though in other way.
The Queen + Paul Rodgers concert in Prague (O2 Arena, former Sazka Arena) on October 31, 2008 was my second one. I went to their concert 3 years ago at the same place. So I can compare both shows. In many ways they were equal, I mean equally good. But personally I liked the first one a bit more, because I stood near the stage, so the feel was great. For the second one I couldn’t get a ticket by the stage, so for the first time in my life I was seated at a rock concert (what a shame!).
It had some advantages. For example, it’s very convenient, if you need to visit the WC. That night there was something wrong with my excretory system and I had to go 3 times to the WC, so I was very grateful I wasn’t standing downstairs among the crowd. But the overall experience was crippled by the fact, that I was sitting in a chair too far from the action and what was even worse – I was surrounded by people who looked totally bored. At least I could concentrate on the music and since I had relativley good view, I could shoot some videos on my old Sony camera.
